Identifying Needs in the iPhone Development Marketplace

Look at the iTunes App Store for iPhone Development ideas!

When scouring the App Store for opportunities we suggest taking a half an hour a day for a week to explore the App Store. Give yourself a system. The easiest place to start is by check the top free and paid apps. This helps give you an idea of what is really popular and where needs may be needed for new iPhone development. It also helps to select and scour categories of applications in which you may have expertise in developing. For example, if you love sports then see what is really popular in sports. This may help trigger ideas for future iPhone app development.

Buy a couple apps to get functionality ideas!

We would also recommend that you spend a few bucks and buy a couple popular iPhone apps. This will help you get a better understanding of the iPhone development that has gone into these apps and what has lead to their success. For one, you will notice that a lot of the top apps have excellent graphic interfaces. This may be a key thing to write down for apps that you like the look of. For example, if you really liked how a certain app looked, worked, and felt, then you can bet that others are thinking just like you!

Write down what you like and don't like of other apps!

When you use apps make notes of what really caught your eye and what didn't catch your eye. The best way to develop a quality iPhone app and discover a need is to think like the customer! By doing this, you give yourself an insight into what the iPhone app consumers really enjoy and don't enjoy! Sometimes by discovering a need that customers do not want, can help you just as much as discovering a need that customers do want. We would suggest that you figure out both of these!

Examples of what you should be writing down!:

* "I really liked how this app ___"
* "I did not like how this app ___"
* "I felt a need to purchase an app when ___"
* "I felt an app was over priced when ___"
* "I think this app would be better in a different environment such as ___"

After your done exploring the app store, keep exploring!

You really can't do too much research, especially when it comes to the iPhone development industry which is ever changing. The greatest asset to an iPhone development company is being able to notice market changes before they are popular and capitalize on this, so we recommend staying informed and never stop exploring the app store!
